Mr Graham E Venn - FRCS (Eng & Ed) FICS FETCS

I trained at the Middlesex Hospital in London qualifying in 1977. I subsequently trained at the Brompton, Harefield, Hammersmith and Middlesex Hospitals in Cardiothoracic Surgery. additionally working with Professor Alain Carpentier during 1989 at the Hospital Broussais in Paris learning advanced techniques in mitral valve reconstruction. Later in 1989 I appointed to St Thomas' Hospital London and am the senior cardiothoracic surgeon of 11 surgeons in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Department of the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust. I am past Clinical director of the amalgamated St Thomas', Guy's and the Brook Cardiac Surgical Services, one of the largest units in the UK.

I head the Department of Cardiac Surgical Research in the Rayne Institute, St Thomas Hospital that has specialised research interests in the protection of the heart and other major organs during open heart surgery. I am actively involved in both under-graduate and post graduate medical education and am a past President of President of the Cardiothoracic Section of the Royal Society of Medicine and am currently Vice-President of the Section.
I have particular cardiac surgical interests in coronary artery surgery, mitral valve reconstruction and surgery for lone and combined atrial fibrillation. My thoracic surgical interests include all aspect of pulmonary surgery.
