James Bingham TD FRCP FRCOG
Consultant Physician in Genitourinary Medicine
Dr James Bingham, a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast, is a Consultant Physician in Genitourinary Medicine at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
After an initial career in obstetrics and gynaecology in Northern Ireland, Africa and North America, he changed to a career in genitourinary medicine in London, training at The Middlesex Hospital under Duncan Catterall, whom he succeeded as Director of the unit. He has been Clinical Director of the Guy's and St Thomas' department, has been President of the Medical Society for the Study of Venereal Diseases (MSSVD), Chairman of the Association for Genitourinary Medicine (AGUM) and was instrumental in amalgamating the two into the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH). He was one of three physicians who founded the British HIV Association (BHIVA), has been President of the international body in his field, the International Union against the Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI) and is Honorary Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine to the British Army.
He is a generalist in his field and has an interest in recurrent genital herpes infection, genital dermatoses and chronic vulvovaginal problems.
